EMMC offers several classes for childbirth education. Childbirth education is actually a 3 week class (the ‘four weeks’ they register you for is to build in a snow day), or, a 2-day weekend class. Breastfeeding and newborn care are part of the complete package, or you can choose which classes best suit you. They also offer a refresher class and sibling class.

In our experience, the classes have been very useful for us as first-time parents. Our childbirth educator seems very supportive of each participant’s preferences. Breastfeeding wasn’t that interesting to ME, but that’s because I’ve had lots of friends breastfeed, and was familiar with what was presented. BangorDaddy found it useful to see what it looked like, and to know what to expect. Newborn Care was really fabulous, especially for BangorDaddy, who has no prior experience with babies. Seeing a real live newborn get a sponge bath was especially cool for us, and the instructor was wonderful. At each class we’ve left with handfuls of freebies like diaper samples, nursing pads, lotion samples, coupons, etc, which is a nice bonus for those of us trying to pinch pennies. (This is, of course, all our own opinions, and you may have a different experience.)

Also, the breastfeeding instructor offered some links, which apparently are outdated. Try kellymom.com for a good online breastfeeding resource.
