With the theme “Rise Up Reading,” this year’s celebration (Nov. 12-18) once again encourages young people and their caregivers to discover new authors, new stories & new ideas. You are invitid to a Book Week party which takes place on Wednesday, November 14 at 4pm. Four children’s authors will be celebrated with skits, theatre, games & snacks. There will also be a Book Week Scavenger Hunt, with a week to finish. All correctly completed entires will go into a drawing for a gift certificate to the Briar Patch.”

The City of Bangor is once again offering early voting for all voters registered in Bangor. Voting takes place at the Civic Center (regardless of ward) from 8am-6pm, now until election day, including Saturday: 8am-noon.  You can register at the polls if you haven’t already; bring ID and something showing your local address, utility bill or similar, to register.  It’s not a major election year, but voting is always important!

The Maine Discovery Museum is having a Spiders & Bugs party!

Bangor Parks & Rec will be holding their Halloween party for kids in grades K-5.

UCP’s 5th annual Pumpkins in the Park will be held Saturday October 27th at the Bangor Auditorium from 3:30pm-7:00pm (with a special “viewing” from 12pm-3pm for those who just want to walk through and see the patches). This annual Halloween Party draws hundreds of people to a warm, safe Halloween environment for children featuring Jack-O-Lanterns, hayrides, bounce houses, face painting and trick-or-treating. Admission to the event is $2.00. For more information please call 941-2952.

There are many activities for children and families that are held throughout the week, during typical business hours, but finding activities for a family with parents who work typical business hours is more challenging. Because of that, I’ve added a new category for working parents, for the resources and activities that would work best with their schedules.
